SUNDAY
The first week in the city was tough :(. I got into DC at 6:30 am and didn't get much sleep on the ride to DC from SF. I also started developing a cold during the ride and was constantly coughing.
Luckily, my roommate Laura was awesome and was really helpful during my first day in DC. Her brother even brought our aptment mates to grocery shopping with his cool car!
Monday
The first day of work, I went slightly late due to my direction-lessness. HAHA. I was introduced to the two other office interns. One was a girlscout!( How cool is that? When she finished her one week assignment she actually gave the office girl scout cookies! How can one top that? It's hard but I should really figure out how...)
Working on the hill is pretty awesome when it isn't recess because there's a lot of briefings and events that go on daily. It's pretty awesome because my supervisor encourages the interns to attend the events :)!
Wednesday
I had a really bad fever and a sore throat, so I had to stay home. :(
Thursday
Still sick
Friday
Getting better...
So at 1:30am I was actually suppose to be taking a bus to NYC from DC's chinatown...or China Block to be more accurate. Sadly, I couldn't find my way around and by the time I got there the other interns went off to eat. The bus was 2 hrs late. :(
Saturday
Got to NYC chinatown at 8ish. Brought a map of the city at the Metro Station and then went to check into my hostel located in the upper west side. Not too shabby for 30 dollars a night. I love the district, right next to central park.
After checking in I went back on the Metro to go back to Chinatown to hang out with some of the other OCA interns at MOCA (Museum of Chinese in America), sadly none of the exhibits were up yet. I checked out their gift store and they had Professor Min Zhou's newest book!! So I brought that sucker since I didn't know when else I would have the opportunity!
After MOCA we went along Chinatown, Little Italy, SOHO, NOHO area for shopping!
Somehow I sorta got scattered and I remet up with the other interns at 6ish for KOLLABORATIONS NYC.
trotted back home after the show...soo tired and soo sick...
SUNDAY
Woke up at 730am. Went to Central Park for Breakfast and decided to walk in the Park. Came across the Museum of Natural History. How could I resist? Then I tried meeting up with Brian (an OCA intern from UCLA and SF, how cool is that?) but sorta got lost in the park for some time...hahah). Met up with OCA interns Brian, Stephanie, and Andrew at the Met. Unfortunately, the Met doesn't chk in luggages and Andrew had a carryon sized rolly.
Luckily the DC Pride Parade was also going on during this time so Andrew and I decided to walk to Time Square to meet up with Cindy (OCA intern) and her friend who was interning at a Publishing company.
I sorta just detached from the others and stayed at the parade for a while before heading over to Chinatown to get some medicine for my prevailing sickness and to do some Chinatown soul searching...lol.
6pm-12am...How I got back to DC...this deserves another blog to itself.
General Observations for the first week in the East Coast.
- There's not many asians in the DC area. I'm culture shocked. I miss my fellow California Asians :(.
- No asians= little asian food and shops and supplies.
- East Coast ppl are intense. They don't play during Rush Hour on the Metro.
- There's a lack of late night in DC. You know how hard it was to find food at 12am? Extremely hard.
- Jackets are not required for the outdoors of DC.
- DC streets gives a lot of time for pedestrians to cross. The city is nicely planned. I love the metro.
- I miss my cali friends. Ppl to say hella to.
- NYC CHINATOWN IS THE BOMB.
- NYC is super safe at night.
- NYC is soo damn expensive...3 dollars for water?
- ppl in NYC dress really well...go figure...
- The CHINATOWN bus to DC-NYC is not legit.
